This month, OM Sanctuary was visited by a little reptilian friend, a blue tailed skink, also known as plestiodon fasciatus , who stopped by to say hi. The Blue Tailed Skink is known for its stunningly colorful blue tail. It is thought that the bright coloring on the tail is intended to direct the predator’s attention to it, rather than its vulnerable body.
This particular one was found near the front entrance of OM Sanctuary and had to be relocated to a more suitable environment. We released it on the nearby Tranquility Trail, a wooded hiking path above the French Broad River for our guests at OM Sanctuary, omsanctuary.org.
