A Promising New Year

Hello again followers of Oshun Mountain Sanctuary, old and new. Because so much has happened since our regular blog postings, OM Sanctuary has much to share about the holistic education that has been going on at our facility and within the community. Today I would like to share with you two monumental events that took place over this past winter.

On January 17th to the 19th, the Pannavati Retreat was hosted by OM Sanctuary. The Venerable Dr. Pannavati is co-Abbpannavattiot and co-founder of Embracing-Simplicity Hermitage located in Hendersonville, NC. She is a Buddhist monk who is ordained in the Mahayana and Theravada traditions with Vajrayana empowerments. A recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Buddhist Women’s Award, she is an advocate of empowering disempowered women and youth around the globe. She also founded My Place, home to more than 75 youth in the past four years.

Her retreat focused on her 501 (c) (3); My Gluten Free Bread Company. This organization has its own jobs training program focused on entrepreneurship and academic platform along with a residential program. The Venerable Dr. Pannavati conducted a three-day meditation retreat at OM Sanctuary that integrated Darshan practices.

On a different note, the Arts in Medicine Summit took place at UNCA on March 21st to 22nd. The goals of this important meeting were “Education, Conversation, and Cultivation of an Art in Medicine Community.” Experienced practitioners of arts in medicine and regional photo AIMartists collaborated to build relationships with one another so that an Arts in Medicine program may be established sometime in the future. OM Sanctuary is privileged to be located in such a community as Asheville where art has great importance amongst a variety of facets of community members, and the medical sector is no exception. OM Sanctuary was thrilled to host the reception for this significant occasion.

Keep your eyes open for our next posting within the next few days. The OM Sanctuary Team hopes that you have a restful and relaxing week.
